china markers are my fave in comparison to charcoal.
Here are some pages from my sketchbook <3

My grandmother gave me a set of Prismacolor colored pencils as well as a set of Prismacolor art sticks both of which were made in 1986, but they still work like a charm and are handy when thinking up ideas that require color! :)

hehe i like my butterfly ;)

art defined

I've been doing research for my upcoming final paper on the relevance of art education in today's society, and I came across this book in my school's library, it's so interesting to read about studies done on artists, why people become artists, what is considered art, what defines an artist, etc...
I really recommend reading this book, i can't stop reading it myself, I am finding so many interesting quotes from this text:

"Just as art is a social-historical construction, so is the artist."

"In terms of personality, they found that the image of the artist is socially withdrawn, introspective, independent, imaginative, unpredictable, and alienated from community expectations is not far off the mark."

"Individuals with deep capacities for feeling or keen sensitivities to the details of experience and the subtleties of interpersonal interactions, enter alternative paths, which are defined as art."

I especially like the last quote :)

Things That Make Me Happy

I've been indulging in food and art lately, here are some of my favorites:

as spring approaches, i am loving everything bright and full of rainbows :)

I just want Mexican food! like never before!
but i have nobody to go with or any money.
I'm so hungry for tacos!!!!

I hate not having friends to eat food with or go shopping or just go for walks.

Library day

i decided to just chill in the library today and watch internet TV and draw the bookshelves. which has been pretty relaxing so far. there is such a beautiful view from where i am sitting, you can see the whole campus, city, and the lake.. some great inspiration for future artwork.
my artistic drive has been crashing for the past couple of years, it has gone like this:
  1. Super productive- excited about getting into Pratt
  2. Productive only for assignments & class time at Pratt
  3. Only school work and commissioned art at BCC
  4. Zero art, only sketchbook work and commissioned work at IC
And now i am at the point where i can't get back to high school, when i had absolute passion for art and it was my daily outlet. When i looked up to and emulated certain artists for their drive and individuality. I feel like right now in this point of my life, am i trying to get back on the horse, it is absolutely essential that i do so.

in order to get back to being myself i am doing the following:
  1. Listening to the music i had abandoned
  2. researching my favorite artists (mainly Andy Warhol)
  3. drawing my surroundings each day and documenting my thoughts
  4. more exercise/yoga to increase happy feelings
so hopefully soon i will be able to upload some new art with the help of my best friend, Andy :)
